Milling: Spelsberg

Mechanical processing

Our qualified employees meet your individual processing needs with the most modern CNC-controlled machines and systems. This ensures that your orders can be completed quickly with results that remain the same. As enclosure and processing come from a single source, there are no interface-related losses from a time or organisational perspective. No additional transport is required, the delivery times are minimised and waste does not occur.

Our range of services includes:

  • Milling
  • Drilling
  • Countersinking
  • Tapping

All products offered by us in our entire catalogue can be processed using these procedures. However, we're also happy to develop your individual enclosure with you. Get in touch with us.

It's a matter of experience

If you want to obtain the best results, all parameters must be perfect. Knowledge of material properties is just as important as knowing which tools and procedures are suitable. At Spelsberg, we place great importance on employee training and further training. Most of you have already been with us for years and have a wide range of experience in enclosure processing. You know what it depends on:

Melting temperature

The melting temperature of thermoplastics must be adjusted precisely. The correct cutting data and millers must be used here.

Cooling

Cooling with compressed air or drilling emulsion reduces temperature-related problems.

Clamping

In order to keep plastic plates free of strain, they are affixed using vacuum technology before processing. This is important to prevent twisting and to obtain good edges.

Tool selection

Our production department works with the most modern, well maintained and, above all, sharp tools to guarantee exact results.

Deburring

When milling plastic, unattractive burrs often occur. They are removed professionally by our employees before you receive the enclosure.

Health

Wherever plastic is being processed with chipping procedures, very fine fibres occur, which have no place in breathable air. In order to protect our employees, we have taken various safety measures. Therefore, a powerful extraction system removes all particles right where they occur. Wearing mouth protection is also obligatory for all processors.

Deformation

Plastic plates can also become deformed after processing, similar to steel plates. The reason for this is internal strains that can also occur when manufacturing extruded plastic products. If one side is milled, these stresses may possibly be released and the plate may bend.

This can be avoided by tempering in advance, i.e. heating over an extended period in order to remove the strains in a controlled manner in advance. Another option is to include a certain allowance from the start. Subsequent finishing can then be carried out in order to compensate for bending.

The sharpness of the plastic miller

The sharpness of the miller is very important, as a blunt miller causes the material to melt and therefore causes unclean cutting edges. The special millers used by Spelsberg are professional products made by Datron. This guarantees the best result.

The right cutting speed

The working speed is also a decisive factor for good results. If the cutting speed is low, the chips are no longer cut properly but rather ripped off. For this reason, it is better to work at higher speeds even though this causes heat input on the base material. However, this can be counteracted by a suitable cooling system (e.g. drilling emulsion or a compressed air cooling system).
