Switchgear construction - Overview: Spelsberg

Safe and modular distribution

Your route to an individual GTi-ISO switchgear

Whether at sports facilities, in industrial plants or in the field of renewable energies - the GTi-ISO switchgears from Spelsberg are as versatile and flexible as their areas of application Modular switchgear for industrySwitchgear construction - Products In all cases, they reliably distribute electrical energy to the places where it is needed. Manufactured from resistant polycarbonate, the GTi housings are a guaranteed corrosion-free alternative to control cabinets made of sheet steel and permanently resist external influences from dust and water or mechanical stresses.

Robust and yet customisable - the GTi series, thanks to its modular structure and open sides, allows easy expansion without knocking out walls. The housings are connected to one another in a time-saving manner and without tools using a plug-in system. No additional connecting material is required for this step. This means that changes to GTi systems at short notice can also be made quickly.

For every application, no matter how individual, you can rely on the functionality and reliability of these products. But that's not all: Spelsberg is there to support you throughout the development of your switchgear with know-how and comprehensive services.

Five steps take you from collecting all project data and planning the switchgear, through manufacturing and testing, to the declaration of conformity and handover.

Switchgear construction specialists from Spelsberg, both in technical sales and in the field, support you in the planning of your switchgear and will be happy to make an offer for a system manufactured by Spelsberg switchgear construction, or for the components for self-assembly.

The 5 steps to your custom switchgear

1. Acceptance and actioning of the request

The introduction of the IEC 61439 series of standards, was accompanied by the so-called black box principle. What this black box switchgear ultimately looks like is influenced by four aspects:

  • Installation and environmental conditions
  • Mains connection
  • Circuits and consumers
  • Operation and maintenance

The interface data of all four aspects are required for professional planning and design of the switchgear.

GTi Project planning support will assist you in determining the necessary data.

2. GTi project planning

Whether for installation indoors or outdoors with appropriate protection from rain and snow, and to reduce the formation of condensation, or in environments with dust, splash water, chemical or mechanical influences - the GTi system is suitable for multiple applications.
For professional installation in protected outdoor areas, read our free of charge white paper.

GTi empty housings have a rated insulation voltage Ui of up to 1,000 V and are therefore suitable for the most common voltages in the low-voltage range, regardless of whether AC or DC.

The flexible busbar system is designed for rated currents of up to 630 A and can withstand an ICW (1 sec) of up to 21 kA.

The housings equipped with switching devices are pre-assembled according to the specifications of the respective device manufacturer and are suitable for CU conductors as standard. In addition, suitable accessory solutions are available so that Al conductors can also be connected safely. Our specialists in technical sales will be happy to help you here too.

Spelsberg offers enclosures with tool-operated covers and flap doors. So the ordinary person can carry out certain switching operations, while at the same time being protected from the dangers of unintentional access to areas that are reserved for trained persons and qualified electricians.

As the original manufacturer (system manufacturer) of the GTi system, the necessary technical data is available from Spelsberg online and in its catalogues for preparation of the design verification. On the website, in the GTi empty housings area, you will find detailed information on the power dissipation capacity of the individual housings, whether as individual housings or in a group. Switchgear construction - Products As regards data on the power dissipation of the switchgear, the actual heating of the housing can be calculated in accordance with DIN EN 61439-1 Supplement 2.

3. Construction of the switchgear

The construction of the GTi switchgear is extremely flexible and easy thanks to the plug-in system of housings and flanges.

The manufacturing process of a switchgear can be divided into the following work steps:

  1. Preparation and provision of the housing, support systems, busbars, switchgear, equipment, and cabling material
  2. Plugging together of the housings using connectors and, if necessary, insertion of the flange bars
  3. Mounting of busbars, mounting plates or other equipment
  4. Installation of switchgears and equipment
  5. Cabling of the switchgear
  6. Installation of the cable entries and fitting of flange
  7. Mounting of the wall fixing

4. Implementation of routine testing

The purpose of routine testing is to check whether the switchgear has been manufactured in accordance with the design verification specifications and to detect inadvertent errors in the construction of the switchgear. Every single switchgear must undergo a routine test. The individual test steps can also take place during production (e.g. to ensure the correct switching devices are installed).

Basically, the protective measures, the electrical and mechanical function, and the insulation properties are checked.

5. CE declaration of conformity

With the CE declaration of conformity, the manufacturer of the switchgear assembly declares that the switchgear conforms to the relevant standard. In addition to the generation of the declaration of conformity, a CE mark must also be affixed to the switchgear.

After production comes commissioning

Commissioning and handover to the operator

The switchgear is finished and ready to be set up at the installation site, with connection of the incoming and outgoing lines. Before the switchgear goes into operation, it must be checked according to, inter alia, DIN VDE 0100 Part 600, to rule out inadvertent errors in the switchgear and its installation.

The operator must be given a report on the test carried out. This documentation is proof for the installer that a compliant system has been installed. For the operator of the system, it is proof of acceptance of a compliant system upon initial commissioning. This commissioning must be carried out by qualified electricians. The order is completed with the delivery of the final documentation, test protocols and handover reports. Form ZVEH can be used to generate these.

Maintenance

The operator must ensure that a check is made that the electrical systems and equipment are in good condition, namely:

  1. after a change or repair, and before restarting, by a qualified electrician or under the direction and supervision of a qualified electrician
    and
  2. with a certain frequency. The length of intervals must be such that faults that may be expected are detected in good time.
